PHOTO ENCAUSTIC COLLAGE

Sunday, September 7, 2025
from 10 am - 4 pm. $235
Location: Vancouver, WA
Intermediate Level/Most supplies included

Encaustic is one of the oldest forms of painting, with paint made from pure pigment mixed with wax and resin. The mixture is applied hot, then reheated to fuse the layers together.

In this hands-on class you’ll learn how to merge your photography with encaustic painting. Using your own images, you’ll explore how to print onto delicate tissue paper—a unique technique that allows your photographs to blend beautifully into layers of molten wax. Through a mix of demonstration and guided practice, you’ll gain confidence in working with materials, layering imagery, and composing with intention.

Following my step-by-step instructions, you’ll prepare and print your photographic images at home before class. These translucent prints will become striking elements in your encaustic collage, interacting with the wax to create depth, softness, and luminosity.

By the end of the day, you’ll have created a richly layered, one-of-a-kind encaustic piece that bridges photography, painting, and traditional collage.

This is an intermediate-level workshop and requires some prior encaustic experience. If you’re new to the medium, I recommend starting with one of my all-levels classes.

All supplies will be provided for you except for your personal imagery. Don't worry if you haven't tried anything like this before, the medium is very forgiving.
