No painting or drawing experience is necessary for this beginning encaustic class. You can collage with wax instead of glue to incorporate thin papers, fabric, and beads and even add pastels once you get used to working with the wax.

We will use techniques involving collage, painting, and layering using wax in an assortment of vivid colors. Don't worry if you haven't tried anything like this before, the medium is very forgiving.

I'll once again be an artist-in-residence at The Verdancy Project in March! I’m excited to roam their 4.5 acres of lush greenery that includes a creek and a gorgeous treehouse. I'll share online what I’ve created in this inspiring space. Maybe you'll be creating here next year?

The Verdancy Project Residency offers artists space and time to create, rest, research, recharge, and get away from the demands of everyday life. This Residency is for creatives whose work exhibits a unique and specific connection to nature and ecology.

Building on the presentation I shared at their recent members meeting, I’ll demonstrate encaustic painting along with several complementary media that pair beautifully with it, including photographs, watercolor, oil, and pastel.

There will be plenty of time for questions, and attendees will also have an opportunity to learn more about my encaustic painting classes at my Vancouver, WA studio. You do not need to be an RAA member to attend. Please join us!

Are you a member of the Ridgefield Art Association? If so, I’ll be your guest speaker in January for the members meeting! I’ll discuss the encaustic painting process and show some of the unique ways it can be combined with other media. This will be a teaser for a live demo I’ll do for them in February.

I’ve only been a member for a few months, but I’ve already had several members join me for encaustic painting classes in my Vancouver WA studio. They’re a terrific and talented group and I’m so glad to have found them.

They’ll have an array of hands-on arts and crafts activities, including wreath-making, writing, and more. I’ll be joining in on the fun too! In this fun and welcoming workshop, I'll lead us in a loose drawing approach that’s all about observation, memory, and emotion—not technical accuracy. This practice is a fantastic way to begin drawing without pressure, no matter your experience level.

Using the scenic backdrop of Plas Newydd Farm in Ridgefield WA, , you’ll see how these quick impressions can become meaningful visual diaries of your own adventures—whether abroad, in your own backyard, or on the farm.

This workshop is open to all levels. You don’t need to know how to draw. You just need curiosity, a sense of play, and a willingness to look a little closer at the world around you.
