watch me paint

I love working with encaustic paint, especially when it’s paired with other media. It’s exciting to see the wax move and the color deepen during the fusing process.

And, I really love teaching encaustic painting! Visit the Paint With Me page to see what classes are coming up.

Fusing encaustic wax with this technique brings a whole different experience to the process of painting and creating imagery. The intense heat of a torch, instead of that of a heat gun, melts the wax in exciting and unique ways. In this tropical water scene, I’m heating the painting with a torch to create a foamy texture in the waves.

This is one panel of a triptych, called Ka ʻuhane o ke kai (Spirit of the Sea), encaustic and mixed media, 24 x 24 in. View the finished 3-panel painting on my Commissions page.

This shows the detailed texture I created for a photo encaustic commission called The Promise of a New Day.

I offer a variety of classes on combining encaustic wax with photographs, as well as other media. Explore my class listings to see if there’s a fit for you!
