PHOTO encaustic: hand coloring
Sunday, August 10
10 am - 4 pm. $235 (almost full)
Location: Vancouver, WA
All levels welcome/Basic supplies included
Photographers seem especially drawn to working with wax because of the variety of ways their images can be reborn in a new medium. Working with encaustic expands the traditional methods of hand coloring photographs, also allowing you to easily add texture.
The look you achieve depends on how you choose combine colorful waxes, drawings, and pastels to add color to your black and white photographs. I’ll share how I layer materials and bring my own images to life.
The best part? The process is very forgiving. Changes can be made easily as you work, with your original photograph protected by our first layers of wax. I often work with photos taken on my iPhone, so no fancy camera gear is needed. Join me with an open mind, ready to experiment and explore new creative possibilities.
Topics covered will include: Printing and mounting your photographs, layering and texturing wax, incorporating compatible media, and setting up a compact and affordable encaustic workspace at home.
All supplies will be provided except for your personal imagery, which can be a black and white photograph on matte paper. Before class begins I will send you instructions on how to easily prepare your images. Confirmation, directions to my studio and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration. Space is limited to 6 students so classes fill quickly.
