3-day PHOTO ENCAUSTIC intensive

This multi-day class is a fresh approach to one of my most popular subjects: Encaustic & Photography. In this course, we’ll combine encaustic and mixed media with your personal photographs using hand coloring, collage, and photo transfers.
We’ll sidestep common technical challenges and concentrate on the techniques I find most useful:
Hand coloring photos before and after waxing
Printing on copy paper or tissue for photo collage
Photo image transfers directly onto wax
My favorite ways of combining all of these techniques
We’ll also work with a variety of other media to enhance our paintings, including color pencils, pastels, pigment sticks, and artist crayons as needed for the looks we want to achieve. I keep the class small enough for plenty of individualized attention.

* PREREQUISITE: Some experience with basic encaustic painting is necessary to get the most out of this course, but you don't need to be an expert. If you have never tried this before but want to join us, please complete any of these classes before this one starts: Intro to Encaustic Painting, Discover Encaustic Collage, Photo Encaustic Hand Coloring.
If you have some experience painting with encaustic on your own then you'll be at the right level for this class. I offer offer rich, personalized instruction that also challenges painters with more encaustic experience to consider advanced ideas and techniques.
Supplies: All basic supplies will be provided except for your personal imagery, including encaustic medium, wax paint, tools, brushes, pastels, pigment sticks, and artist crayons.
I will have up to three 8” x 10” cradled wood panels for each artist. Feel free to bring other sizes and formats up to 12” on the longest side, but multiple smaller panels are fine too. Most students will leave class with 2 or more finished projects, depending on how quickly you work and how detailed your projects are.
If you have certain tools, torches, colors, or art materials that you prefer, please feel free to bring them.
